How to track a parcel from China: statuses and delays explained
Find the right number, read the statuses and know when a quiet parcel needs a message to your agent.
On this page
To track a parcel from China, wait until your agent marks it as shipped, then copy the tracking number from the parcel in your account. Check your agent’s tracking first, and your local carrier’s site once it reaches your country.
Quiet days are normal, and customs alone can take several business days. Compare with your line’s estimated delivery time before you worry.
Where to find your tracking number
At JoyaGoo, open Parcel in your account and use Tracking Details (JoyaGoo’s help). At Superbuy, open the shipped parcel in your account, or enter the tracking or parcel number on its parcel tracking page.
- Item statuses like JoyaGoo’s Seller Sent are about the trip from the seller to the warehouse, not your haul leaving China.
- Carrier sites need the tracking number. DHL points out that an order number is not the same thing.
When tracking starts to show
Tracking moves when someone scans your parcel, and an early entry may only mean the data exists. Canada Post, for example, separates “order was created in our system” from “package was received”.
Give a new number time. JoyaGoo says the first update can take about 3 days after dispatch on some routes, and DHL says a new shipment can take up to 24 hours to appear in its tracking.
Where to track a parcel from China
Start with your agent’s tracking. JoyaGoo also points you to 17TRACK or the line’s own site. The last stretch often runs through your national post or a courier, and Superbuy’s tracking page links to carriers like USPS, Royal Mail, Canada Post, Australia Post and DHL.
Carrier site doesn’t know your number? Ask your agent which carrier and number to use.
Tracking statuses and what they mean
Every carrier words it differently. Some real examples from DHL, Canada Post and JoyaGoo:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| In transit (Canada Post) | The carrier has your parcel and it’s on its way. |
| Additional check in the country of origin (DHL) | A safety check for air transport or dangerous goods. DHL says it takes at least two business days. |
| The plane entered the port (JoyaGoo) | In transit, or landed in your country and waiting for a local scan. |
| The customs clearance process has started (DHL), item held by customs (Canada Post) | Customs is reviewing it. Canada Post calls this standard for all packages sent internationally. |
| Forwarded within the destination country (DHL) | A local postal operator or delivery company has taken over. |
| Out for delivery (Canada Post) | It’s on its way to you. |
| Notice left (Canada Post), ready for pickup (DHL) | It’s waiting at a post office or pickup point. DHL keeps it there 7 to 14 business days, depending on the country. |
| Cannot be delivered (DHL) | For example not collected in time, missing documents, unpaid import duties or prohibited goods. Tell your agent right away. |
DHL says a return can’t be stopped once it starts, so get your name, address and phone number right before you ship.
How long without updates is normal
Parcels aren’t scanned at every step. Canada Post typically scans when a package is mailed and when it goes out for delivery, and says there may be no updates for several days in transit. JoyaGoo says the time between updates can be 3 to 10 days, depending on the route.
Customs adds its own wait, and Canada Post says it can’t step in while customs reviews a parcel. International shipping usually takes 1 to 3 weeks, but your line’s estimate is the better yardstick (see the haul timeline guide).
What to do when tracking is stuck
- Note the last update on each site you check: date, place and wording.
- Still inside your line’s estimate with no problem status? Wait.
- Check email, texts and your mailbox for a notice from the carrier or customs.
- Past the estimate, or a problem status? Message your agent’s support with your parcel number and a tracking screenshot. DHL and Canada Post both send recipients to the sender first, and for you that’s your agent.
Don’t sit on it. Both agents’ compensation terms rule out requests made more than 45 days after shipping or 7 days after delivery, as of October 2026. A late parcel alone isn’t a claim, though: Superbuy’s compensation policy says there’s no compensation for delays. If it looks lost, read the lost or damaged parcel guide.
Superbuy’s online chat runs 09:00 to 18:00 Beijing time.
Customs messages and fake texts
If you owe tax or a fee, the carrier usually tells you. In the UK, Royal Mail leaves a grey Fee to Pay card and may also text or email about customs charges. More in customs and taxes.
Fake delivery texts exist too. USPS only texts you if you signed up with your tracking number, and those texts never contain a link, says the Postal Inspection Service. Type the carrier’s address yourself, and read avoid scams.
Items with fake logos are trademark infringement, and customs can seize them. In some countries, like France, even buying them is illegal, and both agents’ terms exclude goods confiscated by the authorities. Only buy for yourself, never to resell.
Keep notifications on
Keep your phone reachable while the parcel travels. Canada Post and USPS let you sign up for alerts with your tracking number. Check spam for agent and carrier emails.
Questions?
How do I track my Superbuy parcel?
Open the shipped parcel in your Superbuy account, or enter the tracking or parcel number on Superbuy’s parcel tracking page. Once it lands, check the local carrier’s site too.
Why is my tracking not updating from China?
Parcels aren’t scanned at every step. JoyaGoo says updates can be 3 to 10 days apart depending on the route, so compare with your line’s estimate before you contact support.
How long does customs clearance take for a parcel from China?
It varies. DHL says several business days, longer if documents or data are missing, and Canada Post says it can’t step in while customs reviews a parcel.
What does the plane entered the port mean?
JoyaGoo says your parcel is in transit, or has landed in your country and is waiting for a local scan.
When should I contact my agent about a stuck parcel?
When your line’s estimate has passed or tracking shows a problem. Don’t let it drift: both agents’ compensation terms rule out requests made more than 45 days after shipping, as of October 2026.
Is a text asking me to pay a customs fee real?
Don’t pay through a link in a text. Open the carrier’s site yourself and enter your tracking number to see if anything is really due.
